Out of my Norm

Overall, by 7:30, I am ready to start settling down for the night. Make-up off, jammies on. Tonight, though, I just got out of the shower, have re-done my make-up, and am debating which of my suits to put back on. Tonight, instead of reading my book and snuggling in the covers, I’m going to have later-evening drinks with an old friend / former client (Scout). I worked for his company for a year….. but we were friends before I arrived – and after I left. Just not always while I was working there. It’s about keeping open those network connection….but also about spending some time with a friend I care about.
It’s funny how business is business and not personal, yet we make personal connections through our business contacts. But because we are human…and appreciate the common interests and understanding of someone that has “been there, done that”, we let down our guard and out of what we would normally do, make a friend.
On another side, I wonder about the conversations that limo drivers and taxi cab drivers overhear. I use a car service in DC when I have several stops to make or am traveling at an odd time of day (or night). I know I’ve had conversations with girlfriends about personal things, collegues about business matters, and my kid about, well, parent things, while someone is taking me from point a to point b. Tonight, the driver that I use in DC has been shuttling Scout around all day. He is picking me up at my hotel before he is scheduled to pick up Scout after his early dinner at 1600 Pensylvania. I met him through The Lobbyist I know. Don’t you know he – the wonderful driver dude – could write an amazing tell-all filled with excitement, drama and lots of funny stories? But wouldn’t dare because the people that rely on his services as a wonderful driver also depend upon his discretion.
Hm. Just makes me wonder. Time to get dressed and get ready to head out. Hope you are well.
