Moon Songs

I had coffee with Miss O this afternoon, and as we were hugging each other goodbye in the parking lot, she pointed out the moon to me. Although it was still light outside, the moon, so close to full, was hanging there in the sky, just inches, it seems, from the setting sun. Those that I know in the medical and law enforcement communities insist that the full moon does have effects on people, as they see increases in craziness. Oh, the full moon calls to me, and although I can feel the effects on me emotionally, I cannot help but gaze in wonder and beauty at the sky each month. Emotions are a good thing, by the way, and embracing and allowing them can be viewed as a way to better learn yourself.

On the drive home, I began to think about all the songs and poetry and stories inspired by the moon. Werewolves came to mind, of course, as well as moon times for women and the effects on the tide. I also couldn’t help but think about “By the Light of The Silvery Moon” as well as “Moon River”. While I love the Andy Williams version of Moon River, I can’t help but also love this version by the incredibly lovely Audrey Hepburn.

What about you? Does the moon affect you? Do you have a favorite moon story, poem or song?
